Natural Rubber Daily: Cost Support Holds, Market Consolidates Weakly
Price Index
On September 29, the STR20 price index in the Qingdao natural rubber market was USD 2,470/ton, down USD 20/ton from the previous trading day.
Market Analysis
Overseas: Rainfall disruptions in southern Thailand exceeded those in the northeast, limiting supply growth and keeping latex prices firm. Second-tier traders held back sales while processing plants bid up cup lump prices to secure raw material supply.
Vietnam: Production areas maintained rainy conditions, with intermittent precipitation disrupting tapping progress. Overall output fluctuated with weather patterns, and expectations of periodic supply contraction supported firm raw material prices during the week.
Domestic - Yunnan: No rainfall in production areas, with latex output gradually increasing, though overall volume fell short of expectations. Approaching the holiday, different processing plants showed varying procurement strategies, resulting in both high and low price points.
Domestic - Hainan: Weather conditions remained favorable for tapping operations. Combined with high prices stimulating farmers' willingness to tap, raw material supply on the island showed seasonal peak production levels.
Demand
According to industry sources, some all-steel tire enterprises that underwent earlier maintenance remain in maintenance status. Additionally, with the National Day holiday approaching, some enterprises are entering the final stages of pre-holiday maintenance, which will drag down tire industry operating rates further. A few large enterprises maintained high operating rates to ensure regular product supply.
Futures and Spot Price Overview
Market Outlook
Currently, bullish and bearish factors are intertwined in the natural rubber market, with the market lacking a clear direction. On the supply side, the market is watching flood conditions in parts of Thailand, where localized tapping and factory raw material collection are affected. Raw material procurement prices may remain high, providing continued support on the cost side. On the inventory side, Qingdao inventories continue to destock, with supply pressure easing steadily. However, the demand side shows significant drag: affected by the holiday, downstream operations have suspension and production reduction arrangements, procurement pace has slowed, bullish sentiment has cooled, and demand support has weakened. Overall, with cost support and demand drag in a tug-of-war, the natural rubber market is likely to remain in a volatile and weakly consolidating pattern in the near term.
