Titanium Market Overview
Titanium ore: The Panxi titanium ore price index stood at 1,351.25 today, unchanged from yesterday. Operating rates at water-beneficiation plants in the Panxi region are low: raw material costs are high and concentrators are producing at a loss. It is understood that major producers have further cut prices this month, narrowing price spreads in the titanium ore market, which is expected to gradually destock.
Imported ore: Shipments of imported titanium ore remained sluggish, and some prices were earlier cut to low levels, leaving market prices somewhat chaotic. As titanium feedstock imports gradually decline and cost pressures persist, concentrator quotes may gradually stabilize, with the market largely in a wait-and-see mode.
Titanium slag: In July, the tender price for 90% low-calcium-magnesium high-titanium slag from northern enterprises was CNY 5,400/ton, down CNY 50/ton from June. No new tender round has been launched in August so far. Downstream operating rates have declined, near-term demand for high-titanium slag has shrunk, and supply remains ample, putting pressure on shipments. Weighed by raw and auxiliary material costs, high-titanium slag prices stayed steady for now.
Titanium tetrachloride: Market quotes ranged from CNY 5,800 to 6,000/ton. Supply and demand were broadly balanced, shipments were stable, and prices continued to move steadily.
Titanium sponge: Market prices were weak but stable. Mainstream quotes for grade-0 titanium sponge stood at around CNY 45,000–46,000/ton, while mainstream quotes for civil-use grade-1 titanium sponge were around CNY 44,000–45,000/ton. End-user demand remained depressed and new-order inquiries were quiet. With prices at low levels and, combined with market and weather factors, the titanium sponge operating rate edged down. Supply and demand are in a fragile balance, and titanium sponge prices held weak and stable.
Titanium dioxide: The titanium dioxide price index stood at 14,676.56 today, unchanged from yesterday. In the seasonal off-season, shipments remained sluggish, inventories at some plants kept building, and market prices stayed low. Production is under pressure and operating rates have declined, with widespread wait-and-see sentiment. TiO2 prices ran weak and stable.
